The keeping of bees is like the direction of sunbeams.

— Henry David Thoreau

We keep a small apiary ranging between one and four hives. If we’re being honest, beekeeping is not our favorite part of the homestead, because its hard and sweaty work, and chasing swarms is a drag. But we can’t deny how well the small fruits produce with a strong colony of bees working diligently to pollinate them. So we persist.

Our raw local honey is nutritious and delicious. It’s a great alternative to processed sugar in baked goods, smoothies, and hot drinks.

Its use for medicinal purposes can be traced back centuries. Today, it’s used to treat acne, dress wounds, soothe burns, and boost energy.

It has potent anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and raw, local honey is believed by many to minimize seasonal allergy symptoms with regular use.
